Western warmth helps Calgary win bid to host 2022 USA Canada Lions Leadership Forum
More than 2,500 attendees are expected and 4,180 hotel rooms booked when the USA Canada Lions Leadership Forum comes to Calgary in September 2022.
“The Lions of Alberta were extremely thrilled to hear that the host city for the 2022 USA Canada Lions Leadership forum was Calgary,” says Lion Tyler Bray, District Governor, District C-2. “I was advised afterwards that the vote was unanimous in favour of the strong, superior bid submitted by the City of Calgary. We would like to say thank you to Meetings and Conventions Calgary for all their hard work.”
The annual Forum is the largest Lions Club Leadership training event and brings together 2,500 Lions from across North America. Calgary was competing against York, Pennsylvania, and Long Beach, California, for the right to host the 2022 forum.
Judge Brian Stevenson, Past International President, Lions Clubs International, said: “Thank you again for everything arranged by Meetings Calgary when our Forum Inspection Team arrived to review the facilities and other hospitality requirements for the 2022 Lions Leadership Forum in Calgary. Our Inspection Team was overwhelmed with the welcome and reception that Meetings Calgary provided throughout their four-day visit. I have no doubt that the 2,000-plus Lion delegates who arrive in Calgary in September of 2022 from all over the USA and Canada will be equally impressed.
“Kudos to you and everyone at Meetings Calgary for a thoroughly professional job!”
Meetings + Conventions Calgary has been working with Lions Multiple District C since 2012, and started the bidding process for the 2022 USA/Canada Leadership Forum in 2017.
“We are very excited Calgary has been selected to host the forum,” says Jennifer Attersall, Calgary Champion Program Manager with Meetings + Conventions Calgary. “Known for our western hospitality, close knit community and warm spirit, Calgary will showcase what sets us apart from other North American cities. Lions lobbied support both nationally and internationally for Calgary’s bid. The partnership between the locals and MCC was invaluable and we are so pleased to showcase our city in 2022.”
Clark Grue, former President and CEO of Meetings + Conventions Calgary, says: “There’s a lot that goes into these bids. There is the formal part, but the most important part, to be honest, is the community becoming our champions for it. We’ve had great support from the Lions Clubs here in Calgary, as well as Lethbridge, Edmonton, Red Deer. Everybody pulled on the rope for this.”
Now that Calgary has been named the host city, 300 local Lions will come together as volunteers for the Forum in 2022.
