‘Simpler times’ concept wins Disrupt the V Awards competition
A competition set up to give young event professionals exposure has been won by an event graduate who designed an event concept to transport people back to a simpler time.
Kymberley Charlett was named the winner for the Disrupt the V Awards competition set up by micebook. Charlett recently graduated with an event management degree but has struggled to establish a career in the meeting and events industry due to the ongoing pandemic.
The competition asked entrants to conceive a fresh event concept for the V Awards, taking into consideration pressing issues such as sustainability and diversity.
“Ever since I graduated from university, I’ve been keen to pursue a career in events management. However, due to the pandemic, I’ve found there are limited opportunities for industry newcomers. I saw an advert for the competition and knew it would be fantastic to work alongside and learn from industry professionals, gaining valuable experience and connections. I liked that I could get creative with my entry and hopefully add a fresh twist as a newcomer,” Charlett said.
“It still doesn’t feel real that I won the competition. I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity by micebook. I can’t wait to give my all to this project and make it a fantastic night. It’s going to be a good one, you won’t want to miss it.”
Charlett’s idea will be incorporated into the planning for the V Awards and more details about the winning concept will be released as the September awards get closer.
Micebook event director Jessica Charles added: “We have been overwhelmed by the quality of entries with the Disrupt the V Awards competition and I would have loved to work with all of the finalists, who did a phenomenal job of showing creativity and real thought behind their ideas.
“We felt Kym’s concept fit perfectly with what micebook is looking to achieve with the V Awards and we are excited to work with Kym on making her vision a reality, at the live awards ceremony on the 3 September 2021.”
