SG Clean certifies the safety of Singapore’s event venues
Ensuring delegates’ safety is paramount as Singapore prepares to welcome back business events in Singapore with a new quality mark that certifies tourism and MICE businesses.
During these challenging times, Singapore has continued to engage and work closely with local industry players to galvanise relationships in a joint effort to instil public confidence and give assurance to both locals and visitors.
The Singaporean government has rolled out the SG Clean quality mark as part of a nationwide effort to ensure sanitation and hygiene. Businesses and establishments will undergo rigorous checks by professional third parties to be certified ‘SG Clean’. By 1 June 2020, 13,000 SG Clean Quality Mark certificates had been issued, of which more than 800 were tourism-related establishments. More than 95 per cent of establishments on Sentosa island, a must-visit among delegates, have already been certified.
“The well-being and safety of our guests and colleagues remain our top priority,” says Josef Dolp, Executive Vice President, Operations (SEAA), Shangri-La Group. “All four Shangri-La hotels in Singapore are proud recipients of the SG Clean quality mark, a testament to our continued, strong commitment towards good cleanliness and safety standards.
“Event organisers and their guests can enjoy even greater peace of mind from the moment they arrive in our hotels, with additional tried-and-tested safeguards implemented to ensure a clean and safe environment for all.”
To obtain the SG Quality Mark, premises will have to pass audits that certify that they have adhered to sector-specific sanitation and hygiene checklists.
Says Ong Wee Min, Vice President of Conventions & Exhibitions, MICE, Marina Bay Sands: “Recovery for the MICE industry will likely be progressive. It has to be a combined effort in order to restart the industry and begin hosting in-person functions again. Venues will play a key role in the recovery of the events industry.
“Safe distancing measures and reduction of crowd capacity will require venue operators to work creatively with clients to re-look the entire event design. Technology will be utilised for pre-event registration to create a contactless customer experience and for contact tracing purposes.
“Our property is certified SG Clean by the Singapore Government, which assures clients of Marina Bay Sands’ commitment towards hygiene.”
As part of the continued commitment to safety, delegates’ temperature will be taken at the entrance to convention centres, masks and hand sanitisers will be available, meeting buffets will be re-designed into set lunches or modified buffet offerings instead of self-service and enhanced levels of cleaning will be standard.
