Sector unites for sixth annual Global Meetings Industry Day

One year after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, meetings industry professionals will come together with leaders in business, government and the media for Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) 2021.

GMID, an international day of industry advocacy, was started by the Meetings Mean Business Coalition in 2016 and represents a milestone in the safe return of major in-person events and for the people, communities and cities who rely on them.

Dozens of events are taking place virtually and in-person across three continents, including MPI UK & Ireland’s 8×8 Minute Insights, which will see eight sessions of eight minutes each. The session, taking place at 4pm on Thursday 8 April, will see interviews with One Industry One Voice founders Rick Stainton and Simon Hughes and IMEX Group CEO Carina Bauer.

One of the aims of the day is to highlight the extent to which in-person meetings and events are the building blocks of recovery and essential to the future of work.

This year’s GMID theme is Meet Safe, recognising the industry’s top priority of operating meetings and events with health and safety top-of-mind.

Even so, industry professionals rise to the occasion time and time again – from GMID 2020, where event planners in all regions swiftly pivoted their plans to virtual; to today, where businesses and destinations are holding safe in-person events and embracing the hybrid-model as necessary.

“Today, we come together in all settings, stronger and more united than ever, to demonstrate the unwavering value of our industry with leaders in business, government and the media. Showcasing our industry’s value has never been more important.”
