M&IT Corporate Challenge delivers on enhancing delegate experience
The first-ever M&IT Corporate Challenge took place at The Lensbury Hotel in Teddington, London.
A mix of some of the industry’s most respected buyers and a selection of suppliers from around the globe came together for the two-day event to network, collaborate and build business relations to enhance the delegate experience.
The event kicked off on Tuesday 17 September with the “Night in the Bar” event hosted by M&IT managing editor, Martin Lewis. This gave suppliers and buyers the opportunity to network in a casual setting while enjoying a feast of bite-sized food, including arancini, mini fish and chips and a stacked cheese board.
The supplier’s presentations got underway on Wednesday 18 September, detailing the unique selling points of their destination, venue or service. Each of the presentations was engaging and stylised to pack quirky, yet important information into a 10-minute slot, with the option for interested buyers booking one-to-one appointments with suppliers later on in the event.
Among a plethora of memorable presentations were the representatives from Sandals Resorts, Paul Tidy and Graeme Saunders, who informed the audience that delegates can swim with pigs in the Bahamas and encouraged them to sip rum punch as they took in the information.
Between presentations, the audience enjoyed educational sessions from industry experts including Laura Capel-Abras from Stress Matters who taught attendees how to strike a healthy work-life balance and from James Morgan, principal lecturer at the University of Westminster who educated the audience about event design.
In classic M&IT Challenge-style, the attendees got competitive during the challenges with dragon boat racing on the River Thames, creating videos and using strategies to manoeuvere ‘Earth balls’, to gain points and be in with a chance of winning their share of £1,000 worth of vouchers.
“It’s been memorable and just such a well-organised event,” said Arabella Turner from St. James’s Palace Wealth Management.
“It’s been great to incorporate the challenges and by putting us all in different teams we’ve been able to build relationships. I’ve learned so much about the people here, so I think that was a really great idea to throw in some challenges and have to work together.”
The first day concluded with a relaxed drinks reception overlooking the River Thames, followed by a BBQ and acoustic music from Ze Trio which saw everyone up on their feet dancing.
Day two of the M&IT Corporate Challenge will see 12 more presentations from international suppliers, a mix of challenges where teams will play for those final, crucial points and round off with a gala dinner and scenic boat cruise along the River Thames.
