Meetings Needs helps fund access to clean water for Zambian village

Event industry charity Meeting Needs is to help save the villagers of Kuboko in Zambia from having to make a 2.5km journey each day for water.

Jointly funding a project with the Just a Drop charity to drill a borehole and construct a pump, the £10k investment will deliver sustainable, safe, healthy water to 230 residents of the village as well as sanitation and hygiene education. The project will be delivered by Just a Drop, the charity founded by ex-Reed Exhibitions event organiser Fiona Jeffrey OBE.

Just a Drop’s head of fundraising Brendan Hanlon said: “Currently the community takes water from a source 2.5km away, which takes hours to fetch and the water is dirty, leading to high levels of illness. The children will spend more time in school, as they won’t be ill or have to fetch water and money spent on medicines will be saved.”

Meeting Needs chair Jason Wilcock said: “This is a fantastic project that will dramatically change people’s health and well-being as well as their education and prospects. We are delighted to be working with Just a Drop again to help fund one of their excellent projects.”
