Meetings Industry Association announces summer workshops

The Meetings Industry Association (mia) has announced a programme of four educational workshops running through July and August.

The workshops have been designed to improve skills and enhance knowledge in areas across the meetings and events industry including sales, emotional intelligence and audio-visual (AV) production.

The first session will be held at The Studio in Birmingham on 19 July, with a focus on improving sales skills. Kevin Jackson, creative director at The Experience, will lead a team of professional speakers in Sales HIIT, a fast-paced event aimed at putting the “mojo” back into sales techniques.

On 23 July, event professionals in the AV sector can learn about how to improve a delegate experience through effective display solutions at the “Optimising AV Solutions – The Ultimate Client Experience” session.

The half-day workshop, hosted at The Barbican, London, is free to attend for all event professionals.

Jane Longhurst, chief executive of the mia, said: “We are proud to be able to provide our members and the business meetings and events industry with so many opportunities to improve their skills and learning this summer. These events are bound to be popular, so I would encourage you to book a place now so that you don’t miss out.”

The “How to negotiate effectively” workshop is running on 8 August at Luton Hoo in Bedfordshire. The event will be led by Philip Cripps, chief executive of management and people development consultancy at Thameside International. The workshop will address the difference between selling and negotiating.

“Increase sales: Change your mindset” on 13 August at IET: Savoy Place, is ideal for those working in environments where the sales process is complex or is based on an emotional stimulus.

Finally, to round off the summer programme, mia will host the “Connect Agent Day” on 22 August for industry professionals to network with agents.
