Meeting Needs welcomes new chair following successful fundraiser
The conference and events industry charity, Meeting Needs has announced Jason Wilcock as its new chair.
Meeting Needs, which recently raised £37,000 through the annual M&IT Awards auction and raffle, saw the charity exceed its target of £1 million.
Wilcock, who also chairs events and creative communications agency Worldspan in north Wales, has taken the reins from the former chair, Jennifer Jenkins who decided to step down as chair after three years.
Jenkins said: “Jason is the perfect candidate to take Meeting Needs to the next stage of its development because of his leadership skills and many contacts and friends in the industry.
“I feel very passionately about the ability of the charity to unite people from right across the industry behind this single common cause and I’m delighted that Jason has agreed to lead this effort for the next two years.”
The funds raised by the charity are distributed between worthy causes relevant to the events industry, such as Rebound Ability, an organisation which provides trampolining activities to those with complex learning difficulties.
Meeting Needs also has an international focus, supporting programmes such as Cecily’s Fund, a charity which helps impoverished children in Zambia, orphaned by HIV and AIDS, to go to school.
Wilcock, who was previously in charge of beneficiary liaison for Meeting Needs, will be supported in his new role by Lene Corgan, head of business development and business events at Wonderful Copenhagen. Corgan has stepped into the recently created role of vice chair at the charity.
Wilcock told M&IT: “The thing that I love about Meeting Needs is the diversity on the board, it’s made up of people from so many different sectors who support such great work.
“Most importantly it’s about seeing the results and the difference the charity makes, both here in the UK and overseas.”
Wilcock also has a record of helping to personally fundraise for Meeting Needs, including running the occasional half marathon on the charity’s behalf.
The newly announced chair and vice chair will work alongside a selection of the industry’s most experienced players, including Martin Lewis, honorary chair of Meeting Needs.
The next charity fundraiser will take place at the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October. If you would like to take part to raise money for Meeting Needs, sign up here.
