Meeting Needs charity celebrates 15th birthday with growth pledge
Industry charity Meeting Needs has celebrated its 15th birthday with a vow to get bigger and better.
The 15th anniversary coincides with another milestone for the charity – the distribution of £1 million to more than 287 charities in the UK and 68 countries across the globe since its formation in 2004.
And Jason Wilcock, chair of Meeting Needs, said that the charity is aiming to increase the number of projects and worthy causes it donates to, as well as its presence in the industry.
He told M&IT: “Myself and my fellow trustees remain committed to growing our financial support from industry partners and individual fundraisers in order to help as many people in need as we can. For every one of the many wonderful projects we support there is another that we can’t help but would like to. By continuing to improve our reach and network of supporters we hope to change this.
“I think 15 years is quite an amazing achievement. And also, this year we’ve reached the amazing milestone of raising and distributing the millionth pound. There are countless stories behind that millionth pound, people raising money for us in all sorts of different ways, whether dancing, climbing, running, purchasing raffle tickets, supporting us as charity partners.
“So really, we couldn’t have done that millionth pound without the support, the endeavours, the commitment of the wider event industry. We’re very, very grateful.
“When we look at Meeting Needs going forward, I think there’s two real things that are in focus for us. We are represented in a very broad and wide way in the event industry. Obviously we’d like to continue developing those relationships with the industry and engaging more widely.
“I think also one thing that’s very close to our hearts is really making this link between our fundraisers, our supporters, our charity partners, and making a tangible link with the projects that their fundraising and support is benefitting.
“If people can see where the money is going and the impact that that’s having, that’s a very important part of what we’re doing and something that we want to continue doing and do more of in the future.”
Among the worthy causes Meeting Needs agreed to help in 2019 was Happy Days, providing day trips for disabled and under-privileged children aiming to improve their physical and mental well-being which exemplifies their commitment to supporting charities in the UK as well as further afield.
A few of the current board and past trustees including Ryan Curtis-Johnson, Martin Lewis, Lisa Lernoux-Dock, Jason Wilcock, Anthony Lishman and Charles Blowfield gathered to cut a cake and celebrate the occasion.
The charity is appealing for industry partners and individual fundraisers to make contact and find out more about how they can help. Meeting Needs supports more than 30 projects a year with a grant of up to £5,000 each and distributes more than £120,000 annually to tangible projects directly at the point of need.
