Hungexpo Budapest announces record-breaking £21m revenue in 2018

Hungary’s largest exhibition organiser and event management company, Hungexpo, has announced record-breaking turnover for 2018.

Hungexpo, which is part of the international GL events Group, announced it had earned more than £21 million (HUF7.9 billion) at the end of 2018 which is an almost 30 per cent increase from the previous year’s £16m turnover.

The increased revenue is partly thanks to the three new exhibitions launched by Hungexpo in 2018, HOMEDesign, HungaroMed and the Beauty and Style Show. The successful launch of these exhibitions indicates the rising popularity of speciality fairs, which are expected to overtake large audience fairs.

Hungexpo reported that more than 450,000 people attended events, exhibitions, conferences, and corporate parties at the Hungexpo Budapest Fair Centre, the company’s permanent event space, last year.

Some of Hungexpo’s major events in 2018 included hosting the 15th Congress of the European Society of Contraception and Reproductive Health (ESC), run by US-based pharmaceutical company, Pharma. The event welcomed 1,500 attendees from 86 countries.

Hungexpo also hosted the European championship of young professionals, EuroSkills Budapest 2018 last Septemeber. The event attracted close to 100,000 visitors which filled the entire 60,000 sqm of event space at Hungexpo Budapest Fair Centre.

Managing director of Hungexpo, Gabor Ganczer said: “For years we have been working with our parent company, GL events Group, towards hosting more international professional conferences.

“In 2018 our pavillions operated at 87 per cent occupancy, which is an outstanding achievement in the company’s history.”

After international success in 2018, Hungexpo will welcome more globally-recognised events this year, including ERA EDTA, the European Renal Association and the European Dialysis and Transplant Association, in June.

Hungexpo will also host the WTTC 2019, the singles World Table Tennis Championships in April; an event expected to draw more than 10,000 competitors from around the world.

Other events hosted at Hungexpo Budapest Fair Centre this year include Construma, the 38th International Budiling Trade Exhibition in April and AutotTechnika, the 28th International Vehicle Maintenance Industry Trade Exhibition in October.

The event space will also undergo an expansion in April, Ganczer said: “The construction and it’s temporary discomfort, all show the trust we put in our future.

“We, here at Hungexpo, are sure that in two year’s time we will be the owners of a world-class facility, capable of fully satisfying the needs of the exhibitors and visitors alike.”
