‘Faster than expected’ return to face-to-face, says ExCeL
Confidence in face-to-face events is growing far faster than expected, according to ExCeL London.
The Royal Docks venue in East London is expected to host a total of 67 events in 2021, with many new and returning clients on the roster. The venue only reopened its doors to events in July after acting as a Nightingale Hospital to help the NHS during the most desperate periods of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It has already hosted 25 events, including the Virgin London marathon Show, the Digital Transformation EXPO Europe, the Business Travel Show Europe, Global Offshore Wind and The Meetings Show – officially opened by Tourism Minister Nigel Huddleston after relocating from Olympia London.
“After an unprecedented time for everyone in the sector, we are pleased to reveal that events at ExCeL are flourishing, and renewed market confidence is growing far faster than expected,” explained ExCeL London executive director Simon Mills.
“The pandemic has also given us the chance to further enhance our visitor offering such as state-of-the-art digital signage, a new online exhibitor service, significant upgrades in our IT infrastructure and a new partnership with London’s leading street food vendor KERB,” Mills added.
Another show that relocated to ExCeL London is the upcoming London International Horse Show. The show’s event director, Simon Brooks-Ward said: “We are very pleased that we are able to stage the event at ExCeL London. ExCeL will offer our horse show customers excellent facilities, first-class restaurants, fast digital connection, multiple parking spaces and a relaxing environment for Christmas present buying in the Show’s renowned Shopping Village.”
He added: “Our partners, sponsors and exhibitors including the FEI, British Equestrian and Longines are all supportive of the move and are looking forward to seeing a new version of the Show at ExCeL.”
