Business Visits and Events Focus North need own sector

The Business Visits and Events Focus North conference will bring together industry experts to explore opportunities for the North of England to gain a larger share of the meetings and events industry, worth £43.3 billion.

Tourism in Yorkshire alone is now worth £9bn. Organiser, John Gallery said: “Business Visits & Events create more economic value than is recognized. Events are where business is actually done to create wealth, jobs and sustainability and are happening all the time, which, unlike a factory opening, does not get headlines.

“This event purposefully coincides with the Conference and Hospitality Show at the First Direct Arena Leeds to bring together senior leaders in the business tourism sector to draw attention to the opportunities and value that events can bring to an area.”

Among the keynote presenters are include Kerrin MacPhie, VisitBritain’s head of Business Events, Chris Skeith, the Business Visits & Events Partnership’s vice-chairman and Lucy Mccombe, School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Leeds Beckett University.

VisitBritain’s Kerrin MacPhie said: “Business Visits & Events Focus North has been organised by York-based John Gallery, managing director of Great Potential Tourism Marketing who is also chair of the BVEP research group and Tourism Society Yorkshire chairman.

“I’m often travelling to London to events like this and thought it was about time we had our own forum in the North to discuss the opportunities for growing the sector. It should be an informative half-day and I am very grateful to our four supporting organisations and to the speakers for giving freely their time and expertise.”

The event brings together event industry specialists, education experts, research groups, destination management organisations, event management agencies and venue operators for the half-day conference.

The Meetings and incentive industry is gathering pace in cities like Liverpool, which has major new projects in the pipeline. These include the Knowledge Quarter – home to the Northern headquarters of the Royal College of Physicians, the Liverpool Bio Campus and Liverpool2 – a new deep-water container terminal at the Port of Liverpool.

The Business Visits and Events Focus North conference will take place on Tuesday 30th April 2019 between 09.00am – 12.30pm at The Calverley Building, Leeds Becket University, City Campus, Leeds.
