Tourist tax must find the right home

It’s good news that Edinburgh Council has decided to charge a £2 per night ‘tourist tax’. It’s unlikely to dissuade delegates or visitors from enjoying the great city but will provide millions of pounds of additional revenue.

The real key to it’s success of course will be making sure it is ‘ring-fenced’ and used solely for the benefit of the city, and not absorbed into general council spending. I would imagine many other UK cities are watching with interest….
