'We really need a Plan E from government: a plan for events'

Listen /  /

M&IT editor Paul Harvey catches up with Chris Skeith OBE, newly-appointed chair of the Business Visits and Events Partnership (BVEP) and director of the Events Industry Alliance (EIA).

Find out what Skeith has planned for his two-year tenure at the helm of BVEP, what he thinks the relationship between government and the sector looks like, and why his OBE last year was "on behalf of the whole events industry".

On working with government: "I think as a sector we never had the need to demonstrate to government how important we are. I think we've got a long way to go to be fully integrated into government thinking."

On the future of the sector: "The UK is out of the woods in terms of the current spike, but we desperately need from government a Plan E - a plan for events."

On getting an OBE in 2021: "I'm proud to have accepted the OBE on behalf of the events industry. I was fortunate to be in a position to help members and represent their views. I hope it will give the industry a bit more credibility."
