A compact international metropolis, Zurich is a ‘Smart Meeting City’ in the heart of Europe. Easily accessible, Switzerland’s famous precision is on show here with a near perfect transport network. And local partners will help ensure that events run like clockwork, too.

With two gorgeous rivers, a lake and a beautiful medieval Old Town, Zurich is also a modern and exciting city. Connected to the world, there are direct flights from more than 170 destinations and swift links to the city. Zurich Airport (number one in Europe in Airport Ranking 2019) ensures the arrival and onward journey is a pleasant and speedy one. From baggage reclaim to the city centre takes just 15 minutes by train.

From the traditional guild house to contemporary convention centres and Europe’s most sustainable venue, the Umwelt Arena Schweiz, with a large arena and eight further meeting rooms, whether for 10 or 4,000 guests.

Zurich – the HUB of Switzerland

Zurich lies in the centre of Switzerland and the heart of Europe. From here, event planners can offer their attendees the full Swiss experience with unforgettable day trips to its magnificent Alpine landscape, without missing out on the attractions of a modern metropolis, with its vibrant nightlife, first-class gastronomy, top hotels and diverse cultural activities. Have it all!

Day trips to the Alps

Ensure your event attendees experience the full magic of the country and its great outdoors with an unforgettable excursion into the Swiss mountains. A day trip to the Jungfraujoch or Mount Titlis – surrounded by perpetual snow and ice at over 3,000m above sea level – is a truly breathtaking experience and easy to arrange. On Mount Rigi, Mount Stanserhorn, and Mount Pilatus, too, on clear days visitors can delight in the magnificent panoramic views extending far beyond Central Switzerland and the Bernese Oberland.

Being a city of rivers and lakes, visitors should pack their swimsuit for a refreshing post-meeting dip in the crystal clear waters. Hiking, biking and boating are all easily accessible.

The powerhouse of Switzerland

Zurich is the driving force of the Swiss economy, a hub for science and home to many international companies. Famous as a city of banking and finance, it is also one of the most important centres in Europe for Life Sciences, CleanTech and ICT. Google, Microsoft, IBM and Disney Research Lab are a few of many international companies who have established their headquarters in Zurich for reasons such as the high quality of living and the talent pool of the renowned universities including the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich, where Albert Einstein was once a student and professor.

Event planners in fields such as Life Sciences, CleanTech, ICT and Finance will discover an innovative, thriving and accessible environment in Zurich.

Well-connected, the team at Zürich Tourism can arrange speakers, technical visits and contacts with the right people.

Helping Zurich reach this level of success are world-class academic institutions, strategic investors, leading strategies for intellectual properties, innovation-friendly authorities and a serious startup environment. In such a small city, proximity enables private industry, research institutions and authorities to work closely together and support an innovative environment.

Leading the way - the carbon-neutral congress centre

After four years of reconstruction, the congress centre and Tonhalle Zürich is once again open for events and leading the way in carbon-neutral events. This is the first congress centre in Switzerland where guests and event planners don’t even have to think about their CO2 footprint. The building itself, the catering concept and the fact that guests can arrive by foot, make the implementation easy. The centre is located in the heart of the city by the lake.

ACE Zürich offers maximum capacity

Excelling in hosting smaller events, the foundation of ACE has helped put Zurich on the map for large congresses. A collaboration between the Hallenstadion, the largest covered event hall in Switzerland (14,000 sqm), and its neighbour the Messe Zürich, which offers seven halls (30,000 sqm), clients receive every service from a single source.

The Circle Convention Center Zurich Airport

The Circle, a new destination at Zurich Airport, is now open. The brand-new convention centre is just a stone’s throw from the airport terminal buildings and offers event space of more than 3,000 sqm. With a Japanese architect, it offers a tranquil, stylish venue for hosting conventions, events and meetings, as well as gala dinners, trade fairs and product launches. A total of 550 guest rooms and suites at the Hyatt Regency Zurich Airport The Circle and Hyatt Place Zurich Airport The Circle can accommodate guests offering even greater convenience and ease of access.

Rich in culture and nature

As you would expect from the second most livable city in the world (Mercer 2019), Zurich offers an impressive mix of leisure and business, with a diverse cultural agenda, glorious natural surroundings including the Alps on the doorstep and a buzzing urban atmosphere with excellent gastronomy and fun nightlife.

Yet the breathtaking Swiss mountains are only an hour away. Visitors can easily combine the city’s cultural offer with picturesque mountain scenery.

The best things in life: art and chocolate!

Art is in the DNA of Zurich. The Dada art movement started out in the Cabaret Voltaire more than 100 years ago while the Haus Konstruktiv showcases the city’s importance in constructivism. This autumn, a new era is dawning with the opening of the Kunsthaus Zürich extension by architect David Chipperfield, which will turn the renowned building into the largest art museum in Switzerland.

For an urban city experience, visitors head to the up-and-coming neighbourhood of Zürich-West. This former industrial district is now home to innovation, creativity and science as well as research and design, and is fabulous for shopping and gastronomy. There are also many new hotels located in this increasingly fashionable area.

Memorable social programmes: Lindt Home of Chocolate

Zurich is the secret capital of chocolate. This most popular of confectionery delights officially reached the city in 1845, when the Sprüngli family founded the first chocolate factory in German-speaking Switzerland. Today, Zurich is still the place for innovative chocolatiers, from small manufacturers to international pioneers. Chocoholics will find the ideal chocolate experience at the Lindt Home of Chocolate, located on the shores of Lake Zurich. Besides the world’s largest - at nine metres-high - chocolate fountain, the brand new experience centre houses a Chocolateria for workshops hosted by the famous Master Chocolatier, an interactive exhibition, café, research facility and the world’s largest Lindt chocolate shop. (The nicest way to get there is by boat!)

In Zurich, there is a social programme for every type of event and group. Whether a team building activity involving constructing a raft, going on a scavenger hunt, exhilarating fun at the high ropes park or a relaxing barbecue by the lake, talk to the team at the Zurich Convention Bureau for ideas and details of more than 200 social programmes helping visitors gain a different perspective and find itineraries for every season.
