‘First of its kind’ diversity awards launched by Diversity Ally

Diversity and inclusivity are being celebrated in the events industry with the launch of Diversity Ally's inaugural awards.

The Diversity in Events Awards will celebrate, recognise and showcase the organisations and leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to being diversity and inclusion change-makers and allies.

The awards, taking place in April 2022, are open to applications from any organisation, in any sector, including publishers, brands, agencies, venues and individuals that deliver events in all forms from in-person events and virtual events to brand activations and experiential marketing campaigns.

Factors such as accessibility, diversifying supply chains, diverse marketing collateral and content, diverse teams and championing diversity, equality and inclusivity (DEI) initiatives will be considered when applications are submitted.

“The first of its kind in the industry, these awards will require applications from nominees to include tangible and specific examples of diversity and inclusion happening within their organisations or events,” Diversity Ally co-founder Ashanti Bentil-Dhue said.

“This will also produce industry-standard case studies and examples which can be referred to for all in the industry. We are incredibly pleased and proud to announce the launch of what will become a legacy occasion for the events industry.”

Diversity Ally has been working with a range of event companies including Informa Markets, SMYLE, Brands At Work and Diversified Communications over the last year, to help them champion diversity and foster inclusivity in their organisations.

“The Diversity in Events Awards is another opportunity being provided for the events industry to showcase and be recognised for the work it’s doing to become more diverse and inclusive in its culture, people and image,” Diversity Ally co-founder Gabrielle Austen-Browne added.

The categories for the Diversity in Events Awards will be released on Monday 6 September and applications will open on Monday 4 October.

Successful applicants will be announced in a shortlist in February 2022 and the live awards ceremony will take place in April 2022.

The first round of judges selected by Diversity Ally will be announced in 2021. The panel will comprise industry leaders with vast experience and credentials in events and diversity. However, there will also be an opportunity to submit an application to be part of the judging panel. More details will be released on this soon.
