Black event professionals are being invited to join a newly-launched association as it aims to "change the global event landscape".

Founded by Black eventprofs Nadu Placca, Nicole Wallace-White and Aaron Raybe, the Association of Black Event Professionals represents Black individuals, businesses and suppliers within the events industry.

A spokesperson said: “Today, we are proud to announce we are launching the Association of Black Event Professionals (ABEP). Instead of asking for a seat at the table, we are building our own table. For us by us.

“It’s our mission to create the largest network of its kind in the United Kingdom, cementing our place in the event industry to change the game for better and forever.

“ABEP’s vision is to support sustainable growth for Black Event Professionals in the events industry with a predominant focus on the UK and a secondary focus on the USA and Africa. Our mission is to achieve this via advocacy, networking, partnerships and a collective voice.”

The association began life back in April 2021, when The Zoo XYZ founder Nadu Placca put out a call for Black event managers to join the journey to “change the global event landscape”. More than 200 signed up and more than 100 joined calls to discuss being Black in the events space, what the Black community needs and the impact of Covid on the industry.

The spokesperson added: “Representation matters! Who better to represent Black event professionals better than a group of people who understand and live your experience?

“ABEP will be a space for Black professionals of all levels of experience to learn, network and thrive within the industry. Together we can build a community designed to support professional and business development.”

For a limited time of two weeks, original members will have free access to the platform.

The association is also in the process of recruiting a community manager; to apply for the role click here.
